Guess which "twin" showed up toasted for his interview with the ladies of "The View". That's right, Dan the man!
Apparently, he felt the alcohol would hope him cope with the atmosphere on the set. The show's hosts have been the topic of much controversy over the last year. DeVito's interview went o.k., as the ladies of "The View" are laughing off Danny DeVito's tipsy behavior during his appearance on the ABC daytime talkshow.
"Danny DeVito is not an alcoholic," co-host Rosie O'Donnell said Thursday. "He's just a guy who had too many with his friend." Co-host Barbara Walters said, "You know, we love him!" The Barbara said, "We'll have him on again … better sober than not."
On Wednesday's show, the 62-year-old actor-director admitted he'd had a late night out with ladies man George Clooney and said, "I knew it was the last seven limoncellos that was going to get me."
When asked if he had slept, DeVito replied, "I don't know."
DeVito, who was promoting his new Christmas comedy, "Deck the Halls," slurred his speech slightly and told a long-winded story about spending an amorous night in the White House's Lincoln bedroom — circa the Clinton era — with his wife and actress Rhea Perlman. "We went in and made it our business to really wreck the joint," he said.
His words were bleeped out after he apparently used some bad language when joking about President George Bush, whom he had imitated as a monkey and one of the Three Stooges. He later sat on O'Donnell's lap, and she kissed him on the cheek. DeVito's must have thought it was Christmas, and Rosie was Santa Claus!
Co-host Joy Behar said Thursday that DeVito was "drunk as a skunk." Elisabeth Hasselbeck then let out, "But he was a fun drunk." Hasselbeck was just happy to have survived the incident. Walters noted that she had gotten a message later to call him. It wasn't clear whether they had a moment or if he had apologized.
"He wishes to keep this conversation with her private," DeVito's spokesman, Stan Rosenfield, said in a statement.
