Jordin Sparks Beats Beatboxing Blake in Idol Finale

 Jordin Sparks wins American Idol

After 19 weeks, 11 lame theme nights, an Antonella Internet picture-fest, and a creepy Sanjaya later, the sixth season of American Idol has come to an end with Jordin Sparks taking home the gold. If you caught Tuesday’s show, you probably realized that Jordin locked-up the victory over Blake Lewis with her performances of Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter,” Martina McBride’s “A Broken Wing,” and Idol songwriting contest winner, “This is my now.”

Blake brought beatboxing back during the final night of performances on Tuesday with Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name,” which he performed a couple weeks ago, but lost the “wow” factor that was associated with his first remix of the song. Blake then performed Maroon 5’s “She Will be Loved” and the mandatory “This is my now” Idol song.

However, it was evident that Jordin had the pipes and Blake was out-matched. Granted Blake is entertaining to watch, it should be noted that his singing was never enough to win what Simon commonly refers to as “a singing competition.” (With this in mind, I still find it difficult to believe that out of the thousands of Idol hopefuls, Sanjaya was selected in the final cut to make the show. How bad was the rest of America?)

Tonight’s final show had great performances by Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Green Day and an unecessary and horrible showing by Sanjaya singing “Girl You Really Got Me” by The Kinks. Seriously, what does Simon have against America?

Now with all that in the past, Jordin Sparks is in position to achieve the success of predecessors Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Jordin, at only 17, has youth on her side. Although her physical appearance has greatly improved over the duration of the show, my guess is that producers now force her into the gym for some additional refinement.

Jordin already has a Beyonce-ish thing going on, so look forward to the final product when she burns up the airwaves. After all, you can’t start a fire with a Sparks.

  1. I was happy Jordan won! I thought Melinda Doolittle had a great voice, but was not, the “whole package.”As for Blake…I think, he’s for sure an entertainer, but he’d do best in a “boy band.” I enjoyed American Idol this season!
