Wesley Snipes Tax Evasion Case Continues

In February, Wesley Snipes was found guilty of tax evasion, but he sort of weaseled out of it. At that time, Wesley was cleared of federal tax-fraud and conspiracy charges — but found guilty of three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a tax return. But it’s not over!

With a flare for the dramatics, federal prosecutors chose April 15 (Tax Day) to push forward in their seemingly never-ending case. This time, it looks like he could be headed off to jail!

Despite the acquittals of the drastically more serious crimes, the prosecutors are not letting up on Snipes, and I think they want to make an example of him. They want a maximum statutory sentence of three years PLUS a a fine of at least $5 million for Snipes.

“This case presents the court with a singular opportunity to deter tax fraud nationwide,” the government argues in its sentencing recommendation. “The fact that Snipes was acquitted on two felony charges and convicted ‘only’ on three misdemeanor counts has been portrayed in the mainstream media as a ‘victory’ for Snipes.”
