Sony’s update of “The Karate Kid” bashed all the competition to open this weekend with $56 million. Scoring only about half that was “The A-Team,” proving again that a hit TV series from the ‘80s doesn’t always translate to a hit film. This is especially disappointing since the film took ten years to produce and was expected the launch a new franchise. “Shrek Forever After,” “Get Him To The Greek” and “Killers” rounded out the top five. Next weekend’s box office should get a major boost from “Toy Story 3.”
