“Inception” finally lost its hold on the #1 spot at the box office, but it took a pair of big-time leading men to do it. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg ruled the weekend with their buddy cop comedy “The Other Guys,” which opened with a whopping $35.6M. “Inception” held on well, dropping only 34% for a fourth week take of $18.6M. “Step Up 3D” disappointed Disney/Summit with a paltry $15.5M opening, indicating the franchise may be running out of steam. “Salt” was down 43% in week three, taking in $11M to place at #4. In its second week, “Dinner with Schmucks” dropped 60%, bringing in only $10.5M.
Rounding out the top ten are “Despicable Me” ($9.4M), “Cats & Dogs: Kitty Galore” ($6.9M), “Charlie St Cloud” ($4.7M), “Toy Story 3” ($3M) and “The Kids Are Alright” ($2.6M). Anticipating major debuts next weekend are the Julia Roberts starrer “Eat Pray Love,” Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.”
