“Expendables” Kick Ass at Box Office

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? A pair of past-their-prime superstars made auspicious debuts in theaters this weekend. “The Expendables,” Sly Stallone’s class reunion of action heroes, took no prisoners in its debut week, scoring an impressive $35M.
Coming in second was Julia Roberts’ middle-aged chick flick “Eat Pray Love” with $23.7. Holdovers “The Other Guys” and “Inception” took spots #3 and #4 with $18M and $11.3M, respectively. The other anticipated debut of the weekend, comic book adaption “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” came in at #5 with $10.5M.
Rounding out the top ten were “Despicable Me” ($6.7M), “Step Up 3D” ($6.6M), “Salt” ($6.3M), “Dinner For Schmucks” ($6.3M) and “Cats & Dogs 2: Kitty Galore” ($4M). Coming next week are Jennifer Aniston romcom “The Switch,” plus “Nanny McPhee Returns,” “Piranha 3D” and “Vampires Suck.”
