“The Last Exorcism” won the weekend box office with not-so-impressive $21.3M. That was enough to edge out “Takers,” which took in a better-than-expected $20.3M. “The Expendables” just keeps hanging in, making another $9.5M for a cume of $82M. Also holding up well is “Eat Pray Love,” bringing in $6.8M. “The Other Guys” took fifth place with $6.2M.
Finishing the top ten were “Vampires Suck” ($5.3M), “Inception” ($5. 1M), “Nanny McPhee Returns” ($4.7M), “The Switch” ($4.6M) and “Lottery Ticket” ($4M). The upcoming Labor Day weekend should be a big one with the openings of “Machete,” “The American,” “The Tillman Story,” “Going the Distance” and “The Winning Season.”
