“Lone Star” Becomes First Show Cancelled This Season

Highly- touted Fox series “Lone Star” became the first casualty of the fall season, as the network pulled the plug on the series after airing only two episodes. Despite good reviews and major marketing, “Lone Star” opened with a 1.3 rating last week, then slipped to 1.0 this week. 20th Century Fox TV immediately stopped production on the show in the middle of filming episode six, and eps 3-5 aren’t likely to see airtime since crime drama “Lie to Me” has already been scheduled to replace “Lone Star” next week. In today’s market, a new series has to get hot fast or go home.

Katy Perry isn’t letting her rejection by “Sesame Street” get her down. Fresh off a flirty, funny appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” the pop star is set to guest star on the long-running animated series “The Simpsons.” Series exec Al Jean told EW.com, “In the wake of Elmo’s terrible betrayal, the Simpsons puppets wish to announce they stand felt-shoulder-to-shoulder with Katy Perry.” The singer appears as herself in a Christmas-themed episode where she leads puppets of Moe, Bart and the gang in “The 39 Days of Christmas,” and plays barkeep Moe’s girlfriend. We hear Katy wears a very revealing dress on the show, which airs Dec. 5 on Fox.

Paris Settles with Hallmark Over Greeting Card

Her friends won’t have to worry about what kind of Christmas cards they send Paris Hilton this year, since the reality star has settled her suit against Hallmark. Paris took offense at a card making a run of her famous phrase “That’s Hot.” Both sides have been battling it out since the card came out in 2007, and a trial was scheduled for December. Although details of the settlement are sealed, the result is considered to be very favorable to Paris. Given her recent legal problems, maybe Paris should have instead sued over the card following this post.

Lindsay’s Headed Back to Rehab

While Lindsay Lohan managed to escape spending the weekend in jail, the troubled actress isn’t home free yet. She still has to be fitted for a SCRAM bracelet, undergo regular drug tests and appear in court again October 22. Everything she does will be under scrutiny, so there’s no way the starlet can go back to her hard-partying ways without having her probation revoked. That’s probably why Lindsay is planning another trip to rehab—maybe as soon as Monday. Sources are reporting that the actress has seen that she does have a problem and needs more time dealing with her demons. But is going back into treatment an honest attempt to get clean—or just another ploy to avoid more jail time?

Weekend Belongs to “Wall Street” Sequel

It took 23 years for the sequel to film classic “Wall Street” to make it to the screen, but just one weekend to claw its way to the top of the box office. The Michael Douglas/Shia LaBoeuf starrer “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” took in a rather disappointing $19M, but that was enough to beat “Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls” with $16.3M. In its second week, Ben Affleck’s “The Town” crime drama was a close third with $16M. Teen flick “Easy A” brought in another $10.7M to hold on nicely, while the week’s big comedy “You Again” debuted weakly with $8.3M. Rounding out the top ten were holdovers “Devil” ($6.5M), “Resident Evil” ($4.9M), “Alpha & Omega” ($4.7M), “Takers” ($1.6M) and “Inception” ($1.2). Next week’s expected big debut is “The Social Network.”

She’s In, She’s Out — Lindsay Goes (Back) to Jail

Errant actress Lindsay Lohan went through the revolving door of justice again Friday, and it made for an eventful day. Linds had to report to Beverly Hills court bright and early that a.m., and Judge Elden Fox wasted no time in sending her straight back to jail for violating her parole by failing two drug tests. By nine a.m., the actress was being admitted to the Lynwood jail, where she was expected to remain until her next court appearance on October 22. But that was before her lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley arranged a closed-doors meeting with Judge Patricia Snegg, who reversed Judge Fox’s decision and set bail at $300,000. Fortunately, Lindsay’s regular bail bondsman, who’s become a member of the Lohan family over the last year, was ready with the cash, and she was sprung shortly before midnight, after serving a grueling nine hours in the slammer. So Lindsay’s a free woman? Not quite. She still has to be fitted with another SCRAM bracelet, and has been ordered to stay away from places where alcohol is served and drug dealers. Since that pretty much rules out all of her favorite hangouts and best buds, Linds could be looking at a very long, lonely month before she returns to court. It would have been a whole lot easier on Lindsay if she had complied with the requirements for probation following her DUI conviction in 2007, but she didn’t consider it necessary to obey the law back then, and she probably still doesn’t.
