“The Town” is Tops

Ben Affleck’s crime thriller “The Town” made a killing at the weekend box office, bringing in a total of $23.8M. This total easily beat the week’s other two debuts, “Easy A” with $18.2M and “Devil” with $12.6M. In its second week, “Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D” brought in another $10.1M, for a total of $43.9M. Newcomer “Alpha and Omega” took fifth place with $9.2M. The rest of the top ten were holdovers: “Takers” ($3M), “The American” ($2.7M), “The Other Guys” ($2M), “Inception” ($2M) and “Eat Pray Love” ($1.7M). Next week, the film to watch for is “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” as Michael Douglas returns in his iconic role of Gordon Gekko.

Paris Cuts a Plea Deal

Either she’s smarter than Lindsay Lohan, or she has better lawyers, because Paris Hilton has managed to duck a year in the Clark County jail by cutting a plea deal. The heiress/reality star, who was busted last month in Vegas after the cops stopped her car and found cocaine in her purse, has agreed to plea guilty to for drug possession and obstructing an officer. According to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Paris will serve a year of probation, complete a drug abuse program and 200 hours of community service, plus pay a $2,000 fine. The worst penalty of the hard-partying Paris may be having the welcome mat pulled out from under her by the Las Vegas clubs and hotels. While she may be allowed back inside their doors, the formerly in-demand Paris isn’t likely to land any more of those lucrative nightclub hosting jobs that provided a nice chunk of her income.
