“Jackass 3D” Debuts to $50M

Proving you can’t lose by making people laugh, Johnny Knoxville‘s  “Jackass 3D” topped the weekend box office with a colossal $50M opening weekend. The stunt-filled film scored $21.8M on Friday for the biggest single day ever in October. Debuting at #2 with $22.5M was “Red,” a comedy starring Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Bruce Willis as a bunch of over-the-hill paid killers. “The Social Network” dropped to #3 in its third week, with $11M. The rest of the top ten were holdovers, including Disney’s disappointing “Secretariat” with $9.5M, “Life as We Know It” ($9.2M), “The Town” ($4M), “Legend of the Guardians ($4.2M), “My Soul to Take ($3.1M), “Easy A” ($2.6M) and “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” ($2.2M). “Jackass 3D” could easily hold onto the #1 spot next weekend, with the only challengers being “Paranormal Activity 2” and “Hereafter.”
