“Megamind” Has Mega-Big Weekend

A pair of new films had major openings this week, as DreamWorks’ animated “Megamind” brought families to the multiplexes this weekend for a take of $47.6M, followed by Robert Downey Jr. comedy “Due Date” with $33.5M. Performing well in a more limited release was Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls,” with $20.1M.
“Red” is still hanging in well, bringing in another $8.9M in its fourth week. “Saw 3D” took a big drop in its second week, but did add $8.2M to its total. The other Halloween holdover, “Paranormal Activity,” also saw a major drop but brought in $7.2M. “Jackass 3D” added $5M, bringing its total take to $110.8M. “Secretariat” ($4M), “Hereafter” ($4M) and “The Social Network” ($3.6M) rounded out the top ten.
Coming next weekend are Denzel Washington action thriller “Unstoppable” and comedy “Morning Glory,” which stars Rachel McAdams as a young TV producer dealing with the battling hosts of a TV talk show (Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton).
