Can a supermodel ever be too skinny? If she was hired for her healthy, curvy look, she can! Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel came under fire this week after showing up at the brand’s 2011 Swimwear launch looking skinnier than when she posed for the catalog a few months before.
Candice’s lean look gave rise to rumors that the Angels might lose her wings for not adhering to the “healthy and muscular” look that VS prefers. A source told E! News: “There is a really clear criteria for both Angels and the catalogue. Their career path is Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue then to Angel, it’s the highest paying contract there is, period. The image is about being voluptuous, it’s not fat, but it’s curvy. But if you start to look skinny and ‘editorial print-like’ like fashion mag models, like undernourished, it gives the image the company does not want. Their shopper is older, their target is the Macy’s shopper. These are young women who feel pressure these models, she [Swanepoel] could lose her contract if she gets too thin.”
These rumors were denied by Victoria’s Secret President & Chief Marketing Officer Ed Razek, who told HollywoodLife.com: “This is absolutely not true. Candice is one of our most important models.”
Candice herself blamed her weight loss on non-stop traveling, and told People: “I am healthy and happy. I’m heartened to know how much everyone cares about me, but in this case, everything is normal and good.” We’re glad to hear that, since Candice is one of our favorite models!
