The 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards were held at the O2 World in Berlin, Germany last night. Of course all of our favorite singers were on hand, but Beyonce was the real winner, walking away with 3 of the of biggest awards: Best Female and Best Song for “Halo” and Best Video for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” Katy Perry took home top honors, at least in my book, for best dressed celebrity. Below are some photos of the women I found interesting. Some looked good, some not so much. Singing sensation Shakira stops on the red carpet for a few photos before attending the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. I know all of the hype is about Kanye West’s rudeness and Taylor Swift, but let’s not forget about the ladies now. After all, this is why they get dress up—for us to notice! Shakira looks groovy, and I am a big fan of the short dress and the tall high heeled boots. The Shewolf is out of the closet!

Shakira believes every child deserves a quality basic education and these photos show the singer using her star-power to increase awareness about the Global Education Action Week. This really is a great cause!

Today, more than 72 million children do not have the opportunity to attend primary school. In addition, 226 million children are denied the opportunity to attend secondary school.

Justin Timberlake and Beyonce win the prize for most MTV Video Music Awards nominations with seven each. Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” was nominated for video of the year. Justin’s cinematic masterpiece, “What Goes Around … Comes Around,” which co-starred Scarlett Johansson, is also up for video of the year. I always love head-to-head competition! 

The other nominees for video of the year are Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab,” Kanye West’s “Stronger,” Rihanna’s “Umbrella” (featuring Jay-Z and Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.”

Justin was also nominated for male artist of the year and “most earth shattering collaboration” for pairing with Timbaland for “Sexy Back.” Beyonce was nominated for female artist of the year and for her collaboration with Shakira on “Beautiful Liar.”

Shakira really rocked out in Hamburg at the Live Earth concert. It seems as though Shakira was overly excited, as the awkward photo above suggest. I’m not sure if she’s just having a ball or if she is really mad and also giving us the finger. Maybe it was meant for some prick in the crowd.

Oh, my sources say she really, really had to go number 2.

Retardedly, the Dixie Chicks managed to sweep the Grammy Awards for:

• Record of The Year
• Album of the Year
• Song of the Year

Now I'm a big fan of music in general and even used to be a Dixie Chick's fan to some extent (o.k, I used to not "not like them"), but the Dixie Chicks must just be some kind of great to sweep the BIG 3! Oh, and they won a totoal of 5! All I ask, is who the hell is playing this stuff?  I listen to various radio stations and only very rarely do I hear anything from the Dixie Chicks. I think giving awards to musicians that really have great songs is fine, even if they don't get the airplay, but don't songs get more airtime when they are really great? Hmmm?
