Britney Spears arrived in court laughing on Friday, but was later heard cussing during a break in a closed hearing. That hearing ended with no decision on her bid for shared custody of her two young sons with Kevin Federline. Hmmm? The court was expected to issue a written ruling already, but something has happened apparently.

Attorney Sorrell Trope, who represents Britney Spears, said “something has changed, but I can’t say what.” He said Britney was pleased, but he declined further comment.

It get worse! Shortly after a judge decided Britney Spears could resume supervised contact with her children, another agency has decided to investigate Britney on child-abuse claims made by her former bodyguard. Tony Barretto and his attorney filed a child-abuse referral under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and then met with authorities at the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services for two hours. His attorney stated:

“It was our understanding at the end of the meeting that based on our filing that the department will investigate to the best of their ability,” his attorney stated.

Chalk up another personal low for Britney Spears. Citing her drug-and-alcohol-fueled lifestyle, a judge has ordered Britney to relinquish her children. Ex-husband Kevin Federline will take Sean Preston and Jayden James on Wednesday “until further order of the court.” Of course, this is the latest problem to plague Britney, whose fortunes have taken a very public turn for the worse since splitting from K-Fed last year.

Since becoming single, Britney has appeared increasingly erratic and out-of-control. First, she was photographed at various Hollywood hotspots partying hard with Paris Hilton (never a good sign), which ended in photos showing the pop star without panties. Then Spears shaved her head as paparazzi looked on, beat a car with an umbrella and ended up spending a month in rehab. Uh, what’s next, it’s so hard to keep up.

It looks like Britney Spears may be willing to pay a steep price to have her kids in her life, according to the News of the World. Following Britney’s well-publicized meeting with ex-hubby Kevin Federline and his lawyers last week, a friend of the singer discussed Britney’s state of mind and her custodial tactics with the publication. She shared these very true words:

“She is a caring, devoted mom, despite her crazy lifestyle. The kids mean the world to her. However, she has finally come to terms with the fact that the way things are heading, she is going to lose them. She is absolutely petrified at that thought… and she knows she will not win full custody. So she has decided to reach a compromise with Kevin where she will have (primary) custody.”

After already pitching a deal to get K-Fed’s team to stop the public Brit-bashing, NOTW claims the troubled pop star plans to put forth a “multi-million dollar cash-for-kids” offer in her effort to keep her children.
