Analysis and Ranking of Top 8 American Idol Women

Amanda Overmyer Performs

If you tuned in for the final eight ladies on “American Idol,” you witnessed a mediocre show. Overall, the ladies were pretty weak, but there were four women that really stood out — and you can find them in the top four positions on my list down there at the bottom. Were the ladies better than the guy’s performances last night? It’s a toss up!

Asia’h Epperson – She performed Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and the house was dancing with her! Simon says, “Final six!” All I can say regarding her clothes, “4 out of 10.” U. G. L. Y.

Kady Malloy – Kady looked like a Jessica Alba-ish shooting star, but she did not sound like one. Her notes had the dogs barking outside of my railroad car!

Amanda Overmyer – She performed in her original rocker-chick style and hammered this one out of the park! Amanda is going to stay around and make things interesting.

Ramiele Malubay – Uh, no! Paula said, “She deserves to be in the final six.” I say “bottom six.”

Carly Smithson – It was a good solid performance. Paula congratulated her by saying, “You’re like a dependable dog.” By the way, do not piss Paula off.

Kristy Lee Cook – She performed with a mild country twist and it was just OK. Nothing to write home about here – especially if she leaves tonight.

Brooke White – She kept it simple with a little acoustic guitar and a lack of back up singers on “Love is a Battlefield.” And yes, there is a battlefield because she IS in this to win it! Real cool! Simon says, “Two weeks running you’ve given a great performance.”

Syesha Mercado – Another strong performance from Syesha. It wasn’t the best of the night, but it was in the top half.

They say you’re only as good as your last performance, so here is my ranking of the ladies based on last night’s performances:

  1. Amanda Overmyer
  2. Brooke White
  3. Syesha Mercado
  4. Carly Smithson
  5. Asia’h Epperson
  6. Kristy Lee Cook
  7. Ramiele Malubay
  8. Kady Malloy

Idol: It’s Brooke White Versus David Archuleta

 Brooke White

Last night on “American Idol,” Brooke White arguably deleirved the best girls performance and in doing so won the approval of the judges. Brooke appears to be the only girl in a position to rival the guy favorite, David Archuleta.

Brooke White sang “You’re So Vain” as she played her guitar and looked at judge Simon Cowell. Randy Jackson and judge/returned-singer Paula Abdul thought the song went perfectly with her voice and Simon said he “absolutely loved it.”

Carly Smithson sang “Crazy On You.” Randy Jackson thought the beginning was a bit rough, but the performance was great. Paula Abdul said she did a great job, of course. Simon even said he believes she is the girl to beat, but that was prior to Brooke’s superior performance.

Kristy Lee Cook was definitely the most improved of the week — and she sang “You’re No Good.” Randy said it was a “100% improvement,” and we all agree!

Ladies Night Brings Out the Stars on American Idol

Ladies Night Brings Out the Stars on American Idol

Rampant flu-like illness may have plagued the ladies of “American Idol,” but that didn’t stop them from showing up for the very first “Ladies’ Night.” From watching their performances, it looked like 6 of the 12 women could be real contenders down the stretch and were,  overall, better than the guy’s Idol performances. The rest of the Idol ladies can start packing their bags. Here’s what I got:

The Idols that really shined:

  • Brooke White singing “So Happy Together” was a solid, happy song!
  • Asia’h Epperson singing ”Piece of My Heart” made Janice Joplin smile!
  • Amanda Overmeyer singing “Baby Please Don’t Go,” and she won’t!
  • Ramiele Malubay singing “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” was loved by all!
  • Syesha Mercado singing “Tobacco Road” is on the road to victory!

Those Idols that really let us down:

  • Alexandrea Lushington singing “Spinning Wheel,” but the wheels fell off!
  • Carly Smithson singing “The Shadow of Your Smile,” but she was shadowed by real singers!
