The Adam Sandler comedy “Grown Ups” opened in second place with $41 M. Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz rom-com “Knight and Day” came in third with a rather disappointing $27.7 M in its first five days. Given the film’s high-profile stars and plentiful promotion, Twentieth Century Fox had to be expecting better results. Hanging in to round out the top ten were “The Karate Kid,” “The A-Team,” “Get Him to the Greek,” “Shrek Forever After,” “Prince of Persia” and “Killers.” Dropping -70 from its disastrous opening weekend, “Jonah Hex” brought in a paltry $1.6 million, making it the biggest flop of the summer, so far. “Hex” cost $100M+ and has so far made only 9.1M. The upcoming July 4th weekend box office should get a welcome transfusion from the latest episode of the Twilight franchise, “Eclipse.”
