Dixie Chicks Win Big at Grammy’s - WTF????

The Dixie Chicks

Retardedly, the Dixie Chicks managed to sweep the Grammy Awards for:

  • Record of The Year
  • Album of the Year
  • Song of the Year

Now I'm a big fan of music in general and even used to be a Dixie Chick's fan to some extent (o.k, I used to not "not like them"), but the Dixie Chicks must just be some kind of great to sweep the BIG 3! Oh, and they won a totoal of 5! All I ask, is who the hell is playing this stuff?  I listen to various radio stations and only very rarely do I hear anything from the Dixie Chicks. I think giving awards to musicians that really have great songs is fine, even if they don't get the airplay, but don't songs get more airtime when they are really great? Hmmm?

Dixie Chick Documentary after Bush Bashing

Dixie Chicks

The Dixie Chicks may be playing to smaller crowds than before the furor over their criticism of President Bush. Yet the trio said Wednesday there’s a new sense of loyalty among the fans who do show up. We've basically been playing to about half the audience as on the last tour, but it's a different audience. They just look good, band member Martie Maguire told reporters at the Toronto International Film Festival, where the documentary Dixie Chicks: Shut Up & Sing premiered.

Dixie Chicks - Biography of a Band

The Dixie Chicks rose from relative obscurity in 1998 to become one of the most popular acts in contemporary country music. Their origins date back nearly a decade earlier, to 1989, when fiddler Martie Seidel and her banjo-playing sister Emily Erwin formed the group in Dallas with bassist Laura Lynch and guitarist Robin Lynn Macy; after getting their start on local street corners, the quartet soon graduated to clubs, receiving an enormous boost when Seidel earned third place honors at the National Fiddle Championships. Originally, the Dixie Chicks (their name inspired by the Little Feat song “Dixie Chickens”) promoted a classic cowgirl image, complete with a sound inspired by traditional country, folk, and bluegrass; they even titled their 1990 indie-label debut Thank Heavens for Dale Evans.
